Member Reflections

When Vinu Charanya was first introduced to programming during the early years of her schooling, she could immediately sense the power of this discipline. That, combined with an inherent sense of curiosity, led her to pursue a Masters degree in Computer Science and Engineering, and later to become a platform software engineer with a proficiency in Ruby on Rails, HTML, CSS, JS, and Java.

Vinu said she was introduced to computer science as part of my school curriculum and I was immediately in awe of what I could accomplish with programming. “I decided to learn more and started with an undergrad in Computer Science and Engineering as my first step. I have had a very interesting journey so far completing my masters, and still remain addicted to coding and Computer Science.”

erinParkerUpon arriving in the San Francisco Bay Area for a new job, she learned about Women Who Code through some friends. This would grow to become an important part of her life, both personally and professionally. WWCode events were a great resource for networking and learning new things. I’ve built more confidence and have become comfortable because of the opportunities WWCode events have provided.

Today Vinu continues to develop as a professional aiming to one day to found a company that can give back to the community. She also donates her time to several different Women Who Code led projects including working on the organization’s first mobile app, and assisting in the development of the website.
