Erin Parker – Founder Of Spitfire Athlete Explains The Pivotal Moments on Her Journey To Becoming an Engineer
Women Who Code SF member Erin Parker is the Founder of a top mobile application, Spitfire Athlete, which recently launched in the Health and Fitness category of the App Store. She was able to achieve this goal through hard work, which allowed her to master Objective-C, Ruby, and Javascript, while also getting help and inspiration from several female centered tech organizations.
Erin found inspiration and education through Women Who Code. By attending WWCode events, she was able to network with women who provided moral support and technical expertise – particularly in the realm of mobile development. When asked about the workshops, Erin stated, The iOS WWCode team helped me overcome a lot of technical challenges with iOS development, related to networking, database modeling, and Core Data.
In a recent interview she also gave credit to the Railsbridge meet-up she attended, stating that it too had a strong influence on her professional career. First, there was a huge, supportive community of female engineers and ruby enthusiasts. Second, I really enjoyed going through the Railsbridge curriculum. It made sense, was fun to build, and I had a real sense of accomplishment at the end of the event,
she said.
Erin remains enthusiastic about her position as the Founder of Spitfire athlete, and describes it as her dream job.
At the same time she has an eye towards the future, and is constantly working to remain competitive and innovative in a field that is always evolving.
