Women Who Code Hackathon Atlanta Showcases Diversity in Tech

Featured Thought Leaders to Attend Include Regina Wallace-Jones, Head of Security Operations at Facebook, Jennifer Bonet, General Manager at ATDC, Joey Womack, Founder of Amplify 4 Good, and Women Who Code CEO Alaina Percival

Atlanta, GA – July 27, 2016 — Women Who Code (WWCode), a global non-profit organization that empowers career aged women to excel in technology, has released details about their upcoming Hackathon: Women Take on Tech. This includes notable attendees, speakers, and judges, as well as featured sponsors, a career expo, and a full schedule of events to take place over the entire 54 hour event running from July 29th – 31st.

Thought leaders expected to attend the Hackathon include Women Who Code CEO Alaina Percival, Jennifer Bonet the General Manager of ATDC, Joey Womack the Founder of Amplify 4 Good, Ceasar Mitchell the Atlanta City Council President, and Regina Wallace-Jones, Head of Security operations at Facebook.

Regina, who is also a member of the WWCode Advisory Board, said, “There is a power in bringing people together in order to create something completely new. It goes beyond the code, speaking to both the heart and mind of those involved. It’s a healthy process, a creative one that is nourishing for the soul.”

The Hackathon is taking place at the ATDC – Technology Business Incubator @ Tech Square. It’s kicking off with a free career expo which will be open to the public from 1pm – 4pm, featuring top companies that are looking to hire including Verizon, Salesforce, MailChimp, CallRail, and Home Depot. During this time participants will also be able to attend Women Who Code’s Hackathon 101, where they will learn everything they need to know to hit the ground running.

Friday evening a meet and greet happy hour is scheduled, where attendees can Network with other tech professionals. After that, the event will officially begin with over 100 engineers, designers, and mentors working to create amazing applications that will showcase diversity and innovation. Judging is then set to take place Sunday evening.

Judges for the Atlanta Hackathon include Maigh Houlihan, the Sr. Project Manager of Power to Fly & Turner, Lisa Calhoun a Founding Partner of Valor Ventures, Kiki Roeder the Editor-in-Chief of Hypotamus, Jennifer Bonnett the General Manager of ATDC & Founder of StartupChicks, Jacqui Chew the Startup Catalyst & CEO of iFusion Marketing, and Candace Mitchell the CEO & Co-Founder of Techturized, Inc.

The Planning Committee that is working to facilitate the event and run the Hackathon consists of Women Who Code Global Leadership Director Joey Rosenberg, WWCode Atlanta Network Directors Erica Stanley, Beth Laing, and Alicia Carr, WWCode Greenville Director Pamela Browne, and WWCode Tampa Director Sarrah Vesselov.

Alicia spoke about the event noting that, “This hackathon is a chance to show the true depth of diversity that exists in the technology industry. There’s no single face of tech. This event is going to demonstrate that and show the world that women can code, and when they do amazing things can be accomplished.”
