WWCode New York City

NYC network of Women Who Code. Dedicated to helping women succeed in tech careers.

Women Who Code started as a community group in 2011 when a handful of technologists decided they wanted to change the industry experience for women engineers. Since then, it has become a global non-profit organization and the world’s largest and most active community dedicated to empowering women to excel in technology careers. One city at a time, Women Who Code spread around the world, reaching more than 20 countries.

Women Who Code NYC was launched in 2014 when local leaders, including Estella Madison Gonzalez and Elizabeth Ferrao stepped up to architect the community. The first event was held in March at Donors Choose. Since then, amazing things have happened!

Engineers have had great experiences that helped them level up in their career, like monthly Algorithms events, Hack Nights, Portfolio Prep Workshops, Resume Workshops, Women in Leadership Panels, and lightning talks on topics like JavaScript, Data Science, Mobile, and General Tech.

Industry leaders have shared their expertise, like Stephanie Mardell who gave a talk, “The Art & Science Behind Offer Negotiations,”  Lisa van Gelder who shared, “A/B Testing Sexism in Tech,” and Chrissy Fleming, Alisha McWilliams, Yasi Razvan, Lauren Sperber moderated by Alison Badrous who were featured on a panel, “Communicating with Your Product Manager.”

Companies, inspired to help change the face of tech, have joined the cause, including great local partners like BettermentCapital OneTwo SigmaThoughtworksPricelineXO Group.

Women Who Code leaders have been recognized as industry leaders, and continue to pave the way to a more diverse and inclusive workplace experience for everyone.

Director Jiaqi Liu spoke about the importance of Women Who Code in New York saying, “with over 10,000 members, we have an incredibly diverse and large network. Our members, volunteers, and speakers range from those starting to learn to code and those who are growing their careers in the industry. We are creating a space for women in technical careers to showcase their work and skill sets and be thought leaders and influencers in their fields.”
