Bogotá, Colombia – April 26th, 2019 —Women Who Code (WWCode), the largest and most active nonprofit dedicated to inspiring women to succeed in technology careers, is proud to announce the launch of their newest Network in Bogotá, Colombia. This local community group will provide free technical training and networking events, as well as career and leadership advice to women engineers living in the city, while also working with local companies to improve the gender gap in the industry.
Women Who Code Bogotá will be led by Directors Tania Vaca and Isabel Yepes, and is launching on Saturday, April 27th, at the offices of Globant. The inaugural event will celebrate WWCode coming to Bogotá, including an overview of WWCode’s work and global community, a technical talk with actionable career advice, and time for professional networking. This is the 4th Network that Women Who Code has opened in South America to date and the second in Colombia.
“Bogotá has a rich and diverse tech community, which makes it a prime location for the newest Women Who Code network,” said WWCode Chief Leadership Officer Joey Rosenberg. “Our local Networks have the power to propel and inspire engineers in the careers. With Isabel and Tania leading the way, I know that we can do great things here.”
Isabel Yepes was formerly a Director for WWCode Medellín, and is now bringing that experience to the Bogotá Network. She spoke about the launch saying, “There are so many women engineers in this city doing amazing and innovative things in their careers. I want to bring them together so we can inspire others to start and remain in IT careers, supporting each other in achieving our dreams and changing the world. A city like Bogotá where STEM-related activities amount 12.4% of the GDP presents a formidable opportunity for all us.”
