Women Who Code Expands to Africa

### The global non-profit extends their impact to al-Jaza’ir, Algeria
SAN FRANCISCO, February 19, 2015 — Women Who Code (WWCode), a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring women to excel in technology careers, recently announced the launch of the al Jaza’ir, Algeria Network. This marks the fiftieth city launch for the international organization and is the first time the non-profit has extended its reach to the continent of Africa.
Director Fatima Djoujou, who will represent the interests of the non-profit in Algeria spoke about her inspiration for helping start the group, saying, “Being a part of WWCode gives me the confidence and motivation to be an inspiring software engineer. It helps me to empower other females in computer science in my society.” Leading the Network along with Djoujou is Co-Director Racha Bella. “I wanted to get involved with Women Who Code because I saw how important women developers could be in our community,” Bella said. “It is important to give women the same chance as men and I am excited I will have the chance to build a strong network where women can collaborate with each other.”
The first event for the al-Jaza'ir, Algeria Network took place on February 14th, and the hack event is being held at the local National Higher School Of Computer Science (ESI). In regards to this landmark event, WWCode CEO Alaina Percival said “It’s exciting to extend our impact to not only a new city, but to a new continent – somewhere we have wanted to expand to for a long time. We are honored to find two amazing women to help lead our advocacy efforts in Northern Africa.”
Women Who Code is a global non-profit dedicated to inspiring women to excel in technology careers. The organization provides women with an avenue into technology, empowers women with skills needed for professional advancement, and provide environments where networking and mentorship are valued. The organization has executed more than 1,200 free events around the world, garnered a membership exceeding 20,000, and has a presence in 15 countries.
