The Christmas Coding Challenge 2022: Excellent Experience
Written by Arzu Caner
The most important thing you need to experience when learning to code is a lot of practice. Once you start practicing every day, you'll be amazed at how far you have come.
Are you ready to read a fantastic challenge story?
When I was a Technical SEO Analyst, I made a career change and started my journey to become a Frontend Developer five months ago.
While completing my training and continuing to work on projects, I came across Women Who Code London, a community of amazing women who support each other in the software industry.
They announced the Christmas Challenge in November and I wanted to join right away.
I was going to join in a challenge for the first time in this industry and I was very excited.
After that; My friends Deniz Ozturk and Ceren Ture from Lonca (A school of software engineering that follows the software craftsmanship movement) joined me and we attended this challenge together.
Despite the time difference between us, we finished our work and met at night to exchange ideas about our project.
Before the challenge started, we had our first meeting and determined the project we would do. We decided to make a book app with React.
We worked on our project every day for 25 days, from the first day the Challenge started to the day it ended.
Now we have a memory of a challenge together.
Hope it inspires everyone who wants to learn to code…
Advice on what to do before and during the challenge;
-
Prepare your “ToDo List” and determine the time you will allocate for the challenge.
-
Keep your motivation high by thinking about the experiences it will bring you.
-
Decide in advance which project you will do. Choosing a programming language that you are particularly considering to start with will be an opportunity for you to learn it.
-
You can find friends with whom you will do this challenge together. In this way, you can benefit from each other's experiences and strengthen the bonds of friendship.
-
You can remember what you have learned before and use it in your new project.
-
You can get into the habit of working more planned by writing code regularly every day. When the challenge is over, you will realize that there is a void in your life.
-
You can publish your project details on your social media accounts every day. So you can be an inspiration to other women.
This challenge gave us great experiences.
-
We enjoyed working with team spirit and shared our ideas.
-
We developed and supported each other.
-
We improved our coding skills.
-
Our motivation to write code increased.
Thank you very much to the Who Women Code London team for “The Christmas Coding Challenge 2022”, which allowed us to gain experience and improve our coding skills.
